The Beverage Industry

The beverage manufacturing industry in the UK is a vital sector and plays a significant role in the country's economy and global trade. It encompasses a wide range of activities, including the production, processing and packaging of various drink products.

One of the distinguishing features of the UK's beverage manufacturing industry is its diverse and dynamic nature. It comprises both large-scale multinational corporations and small to medium-sized enterprises, representing a wide array of products.

Maintenance is a fundamental aspect of beverage manufacturing. It ensures safety, quality, and compliance with regulations while driving operational efficiency, cost savings and sustainability. Companies who prioritise maintenance practices, can enhance productivity, protect their brand reputation, and ensure the satisfaction and safety of their consumers.

MCP Experience

MCP has over 40 year’s experience working within the beverage industry, providing anything from maintenance improvement programs to CMMS implementation, maintenance management training to technical training.

It is this ability to provide such a range of services to our clients that enables us to establish robust and long-term relationships. As our clients evolve, so do we. This ensures we are able to support them with continuous improvement programs, whether they last a year or decades.

Kingsley Beverages Building

Kingsley Beverages

Kingsley Beverages is an international business with operations in Johannesburg (South Africa), Dubai (UAE), Houston (USA) and Cambridgeshire (UK).

As part of their global growth, the Kingsley Beverages UK facility, which incorporates its state-of-the-art beverage operations, has been increasing output rapidly since its completion in 2019.

The product portfolio, produced in the Cambridgeshire plant, includes a range of still and sparkling soft drinks which are distributed throughout the UK, as well as being exported into Europe and to other Kingsley operations throughout the globe.

Kingsley Beverages maybe a relatively new client of ours, but their Engineering Manager, Daniel Bridges, has many years experience working with us in his previous roles. His career and experience with MCP has included delivering AMIS World Class status within 3 years at AG Barr (read the case study here), where we also delivered reliability and technical operator training.

When Dan moved company he implemented a fully mobile CMMS and condition monitoring programme, across all critical assets. MCP supported him and his team here with Maintenance Best Practice and Electrical Safety Training.

Since moving to Kinglsey Beverages, Dan has continued to drive change, investing in both his equipment and systems, as well as his most important asset - his people.

The Partnership

And it is for his people, that MCP come in. Dan explains:

“I am very excited to continue working with MCP here at Kingsley Beverages, to be able to provide our first engineering apprentice (Ali) with training and development opportunities that are aligned with, not only his personal ambition but the ambitions we have as a business.

“The British Soft Drinks Association (BSDA) Foundation was brought to my attention at the 2022 BSDA annual conference when I had a long conversation with their Trustee, Dick Charlton. It became quite apparent that there is an understanding within the BSDA that the industry as a whole needs engineers to be brought onboard. Without a soft drinks specific apprenticeship scheme it is up to us, as employers, to develop them, but the funding can be awarded.

“The funds provided by the BSDA provide coverage for Ali’s first year of courses, which as a young growing business are invaluable to our success.

“The process was simple and the assistance from the foundation has been superb, I look forward to seeing Ali develop with the continued support of the BSDAIF over the coming 3 years.

“Our chosen training partner is MCP Consulting, who have the breadth and quality of courses to cover our needs and importantly the choices for Ali’s 3rd year when he will be able to choose his own path.

“I have worked with MCP for the past 5 years, I see this partnership continuing with engineer training but also growing, to provide development opportunities for operational staff and using this as the foundation on our planned AMIS Journey.

“Exciting times ahead at Kingsley Beverages with the help of the BSDAIF and MCP Consulting.”

John Saysell, MCP Technical Training Director, also mirrored this sentiment by adding:

“It is excellent news that the British Soft Drinks Association is investing in skills for the future.”

The Apprentice

Here is what Ali (the apprentice) also had to say:

“I am looking forward to partnering with MCP to help further my education in engineering, the training courses on offer look really beneficial and useful. I feel this is a big step in continuing my engineering journey and with the help of MCP, I will be able to expand my knowledge within the necessary areas needed.

“I am very excited to be working with MCP and cannot wait to get started!”

The Hero Program

Ali will initially be following our hero program - Mechanical to Electrical Training Parts 1 - 4. But this is just the beginning for Ali…
